What is a Gyil?

The Gyil is a West African percussion instrument from in Ghana. It is similar to the marimba, but with it's own rich history and tonal flavor. We have sampled the real thing and built The Ableton Gyil Plugin you can use in Ableton Live with stock plugins.

Hear The Ableton Gyil Plugin

This demo of The Ableton Gyil Plugin starts completely dry. There are no effects, not even EQ.  Then, around 30 seconds into the track, you can hear what is possible with some reverb delay effects that slowly fade in and transform the sound into a completely unique texture.

Also known as a Balafon, Balangi, or Bala, its struck with a mallet and there are gourds underneath the bars that contain spiderweb silk to produce a distinct buzzing sound as they resonate.

Traditionally a pentatonic tuned instrument that is tuned to itself, The Ableton Gyil Plugin is built to be a fully chromatic software instrument. Multi-sampled, in tune, and velocity sensitive so you can drag and drop it into your productions

Do I Need Kontakt to run The Ableton Gyil Plugin?

You do not need Kontakt, Kontakt player or any 3rd party plugins.
